Technical backbone—what makes it an HRC Roof™

We build like the old masters—but with modern understanding of ventilation, drainage, and fixings.

  • Copper: 0.6 mm soft copper for valleys, flashings, firewall cappings

  • Slate: Typically 24" × 12–14", 7–10 mm thickness

  • Timber: Valley timbers 4×1 treated, gaps maintained; fillets 5×2

  • Membrane: Roofshield (Don & Low)

  • Fixings: Copper nails; stainless for battens

  • Ridge: Sand & lime bedding only

  • Rainwater goods: Cast iron or cast aluminium

Firewall systems:

  • Standard HRC Firewall:

    Masonry party wall brought through the roof with copper capping & separation—fire-safe, ventilated, period-correct.

  • HRC Inline Firewall:

    For continuous terraces with no visible party wall. Felt cut back over battens both sides; battens cut at party wall; masonry built to batten height; slates bedded in lime and mechanically fixed—no visible copper above the roofline.

Valleys & outlets:

Improved drainage falls; stepped details at directional changes; no soldered modern outlets on conservation roofs.

We’re happy working with your architect, conservation officer, or engineer. Our drawings and method statements are set up for third-party review and sign-off.
